Former competitors turn colleagues at Bayern and the England skipper is already liking Kompany’s managerial style.
Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies were the last of the international players for Bayern Munich to make their returns to Sabener Straße after their extended holidays on the heels of going far in both the EUROs and Copa America with England and Canada, respectively. In addition to only a handful of light training sessions under his belt, Kane also made a brief cameo in Bayern’s 3-2 friendly win against his former club, Tottenham Hotspur in North London. It was the second of two friendlies against Kane’s previous employer and both were a part of the deal between the two clubs when Kane made his move to Bayern last summer.
It has only been a short while that the England skipper has been back with Bayern after losing the EURO 2024 final with England against Spain in Berlin, but Kane said he is already enjoying working under new manager Vincent Kompany. The Belgian manager has only been in charge of the club since the beginning of July but has already been leaving lasting impressions on players in the squad, even those that have not been back from international duty very long.
“It’s been great. I’ve only been back for a couple of days. I’m getting to know him. I really like him, I think he’s a great leader, a great personality to have as a coach. You see the way we want to play, with high intensity, high press, keeping the ball. I’m really looking forward to this season with him,” Kane described of the small handful of days he has been back and working under Kompany (Hayters TV via @iMiaSanMia). It is clear that the striker is already picking up on the collective vibe the Thomas Tuchel successor has created at the club.
Given their history as previous competitors in the Premier League with Tottenham and Manchester City, Kane and Kompany will certainly have known each other rather well over the years and have built a level of respect for one another. A serial winner from English to flight is now at the helm in Kane’s second season at Bayern, but the striker is no stranger to having to adapt his traits to a new manager, having played for over 10 different managers during his time at Tottenham. Not to mention, he has played under a handful of managers for the English national team.
