Greenwood is about to debut for Marseille

According to SunSport, the private flight carrying Mason Greenwood left Manchester at 8:22 p.m. yesterday local time. At 11:00 p.m. the same day, the English striker arrived in France.

Greenwood was joined in Marseille by his entourage, girlfriend Harriet Robson and their daughter. In Marseille, the MU striker was warmly welcomed by fans.

Dozens of fans greeted Greenwood at the airport. They sang Greenwood’s name, lit fireworks and flares to welcome the 22-year-old striker. Touched by the affection of the Marseille fans, Greenwood clapped and said thank you before getting in the car to return to the hotel.

Greenwood and his family arrived in France after Marseille reached an agreement to buy him from MU. According to British media, the fee for this deal is 27 million pounds, plus 3.2 million pounds in variable fees. According to the agreement between MU and Marseille, the Red Devils will receive 50% of the contract value when the French team sells Greenwood.

Greenwood is about to leave MU after 17 years of association. The English striker joined the Red Devils’ academy team in 2007, and was promoted to the first team in the 2018-19 season. The 22-year-old striker scored 35 goals and had 12 assists for the Red Devils in 129 matches.

Due to the rape and assault scandal of his girlfriend in 2022, Greenwood had no chance to develop his career at MU. Last season, he was pushed to Getafe on loan. Shining with 10 goals and 6 assists after 36 matches, Greenwood was voted Getafe’s best player in the 2023-24 campaign.

Greenwood’s impressive form has made him a top target for new Marseille coach Roberto De Zerbi. Les Phoceens could complete and announce the Greenwood deal in the next 48 hours.
