Manchester United have reportedly initiated discussions with the representatives of 25-year-old French midfielder Youssouf Fofana over a possible late move this summer.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Youssouf Fofana is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a midfielder before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Frenchman has thus emerged as a target, with Manchester United opening talks with his entourage. Meanwhile, AS Monaco will demand around €25 million to part ways with him.
Youssouf Fofana has established himself as one of the best midfielders in La Liga since joining AS Monaco from RC Strasbourg in January 2020. The French midfielder has gone from strength to strength in the last four and a half years, with his exploits earning him regular call-ups to his national team.
The 25-year-old has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for AS Monaco while chipping in with seven goals and 15 assists. However, Fofana faces an uncertain future at Stade Louis II after entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Recent reports have pointed to AC Milan being in the pole position to secure Youssouf Fofana’s services. The Frenchman prefers a move to San Siro amid his links with Manchester United.
Manchester United’s interest in Youssouf Fofana is understandable. The Red Devils have been keen on bolstering their midfield department in the summer transfer window after Casemiro struggled throughout last season and Christian Eriksen experienced a drastic drop in performance levels.
Fofana has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, especially considering his versatility. The Frenchman will not be an expensive purchase this summer, with AS Monaco demanding around €25 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Manchester United have opened talks with the midfielder’s entourage.
AC Milan will still be the favourite to secure Youssouf Fofana’s services in the summer transfer window. However, with the Rossoneri stuck on coughing up €17 million instead of €25 million, Manchester United might have a window of opportunity.
