Liverpool have confirmed that goalkeeper Adrian has decided to leave the club following the end of his contract this summer.
The Spaniard was offered an extension but has opted to pursue a new challenge after five years at Anfield. The 37-year-old, who made 26 appearances for Liverpool, is expected to rejoin his former club Real Betis.
Adrian was a popular figure in the dressing room as he provided experienced cover for Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.
The highlight of his Liverpool career was his heroics in the penalty shootout triumph over Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul in 2019.
With Adrian moving on, Liverpool intend to promote young goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros to Arne Slot’s squad. The 22-year-old is currently on holiday after being part of the Czech squad at the Euros.
Jaros enjoyed an excellent loan spell in Austria with Sturm Graz last season as he helped them win a league and cup double.
